KEI was founded in January 1993 as the Korea Environmental Technology Research Institute (KETRI). Although we have undergone several name changes since then, we have always been dedicating ourselves to research for preserving our natural environment and promoting sustainable development.

KEI is the sole public institution responsible for environmental policy research and the only institution specializing in environmental impact assessment review in Korea. At KEI, experts from various fields are working together to sustain ecosystems, keep air and water clean, and make our life safer and more pleasant.

We promise to pay utmost attention to citizens and policymakers and endeavor to resolve and prevent environmental problems based on scientific and data-based research and impact assessment. We will prepare for future environmental issues in advance with mid- to long-term research, and respond rapidly to current issues based on the accumulated data.

We will not confine our work to that concerning our nation alone. We will contribute to the sustainable development of the entire globe, especially of developing countries.
