Analysis of Consumer-Centered Technology Scenarios of Carbon Neutrality
Ⅰ. Background and Aims of Research
o Many countries announced their carbon neutrality targets to respond to the global climate crisis.
ㅇ The IPCC Sixth Assessment Report released in 2022 addressed that climate change caused by human economic activities has brought about extreme climate risks and this implies that the trend pointed out in the Fifth Assessment Report in 2014 has been strengthened.
ㅇ Accordingly, more than 70 countries, including EU members, have declared carbon neutrality targets and are announcing and enacting their reduction plans.
- The Korean government also declared carbon neutrality by 2050 in October 2020 and finalized the carbon neutrality scenarios in September 2021.

oIntroducing carbon neutral technology is essential to achieving carbon neutrality and securing the competitiveness of future industries.
ㅇ In order to secure Korea’s future technology and industrial competitiveness, it is necessary to develop innovative technology and analyze conditions for its uses.

o This study is the first-year research of the three-year research project which aims to achieve the following goals.
ㅇWe focused on the energy and transportation sectors and established a technology cost database that could be widely utilized.
ㅇ We focused on devising and proposing a cost-efficient and effective carbon neutral technology scenario.
ㅇ We focused on reviewing previous studies on path analysis methodologies to calculate the cost and effectiveness of implementing the carbon neutrality policy.

Ⅱ. Current Status of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Related Policies
