Ⅰ. Background and Aims of Research
o For successful mitigation and adaptation under climate change, it is important to analyze recent discussions regarding the IPCC framework.
ㅇ The assessment report of IPCC serves as a basis for establishing national climate change policies and relevant actions. Therefore, sufficient discussion and analysis is required of the discussions and findings in the IPCC assessment report.

o In order to facilitate the participation and contribution of researchers to IPCC discussions, it is necessary to explore longer-term research agendas and global issues on climate change adaptation and mitigation.
ㅇ It is necessary to analyze the recent findings of the IPCC assessment report and find ways to enhance South Korea’s contribution to global climate change research.

o Therefore, this study aims to suggest longer-term research agendas for each working group of the IPCC and identify the required research base for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Ⅱ. Key Issues Regarding the Sixth Assessment Report of the IPCC
1. Key issues related to Working Group 1
o The IPCC 6th Report (hereinafter referred to as ‘AR6’) further reduces uncertainty surrounding about climate scientific evidence by enhancing the scientific credibility of climate models.

o Following the release of AR6, climate science is focused on improving short-term prediction capabilities, providing regional climate prospects and information for complex disaster management (including predictions), enhancing understanding of uncertainty, and establishing governance for data utilization.
