A study on eurasian environmental strategy in response to China’s ‘one belt and one road’ strategy
The ‘One Belt and One Road (OBOR)’ strategy announced by the Chinese government at the Boao Forum for Asia in 2015 is expected to become a mega trend of regional cooperation that encompasses economic, political, security and diplomacy across the Eurasian region beyond economic cooperation. However, due to the nature of the ‘OBOR’ strategy, large-scale infrastructure development projects and regional economic cooperation expansion in Eurasia are expected to have a significant impact on the environment in Eurasia. Especially, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, which are the main target areas of ‘One to One’, are very environmentally vulnerable. Therefore, unless a environmental strategy of ‘OBOR’ is taken into consideration, it could lead to an environmental disaster that is bigger than economic performance. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an Eurasian environmental strategy of ‘OBOR’ to minimize the environmental impacts that will arise in the process of large-scale infrastructure projects and to promote ‘OBOR’ strategies as environmentally friendly and sustainable strategies including environment and climate infrastructure.
For this purpose, focusing on the 6 major economic corridors which are the core areas of the ‘OBOR’ strategy, this study examined the actual environmental conditions of major cities by country and derived environ-mental issues and environmental demands. In addition, we looked at the structure of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), a key driving force for the ‘OBOR’ strategy, and examined the environmental regulations r
