Environmental Status in North Korea: Biodiversity and Waste Management
Ⅰ. Introduction
1. Background
oDemocratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has hardly invested in environmental conservation due to a lack of social capital and technology for waste management. In DPRK, it is very limited and basically controlled in the field of waste management because there is a very little national capacity to implement it on its own.

oSome information on waste management in DPRK can be obtained by reviewing in oEnvironmental Status in North Korea: Sewerage and Wasteo (2021).

oQuantitative basic data are needed for the proper management of waste in DPRK, but the data are very limited. Some data on waste management in DPRK are presented by international environmental conventions and international organizations to which DPRK has joined. It is necessary to establish international cooperation plans to manage wastes properly from a humanitarian perspective using the basic waste data.

2. Purpose
o The purpose of this study is as follows.
ㅇInvestigation and review of waste management policies and current status of international cooperation and international conventions in DPRK.
ㅇSuggest the plans to establish international cooperation for proper waste management in DPRK.
