Reconstruction of Mammal Distribution through Analysis of Historical Documents of the Joseon Dynasty and Direction of Inter-Korean Cooperation
Ⅰ. Background
1. Study background and objectives
o The geographical characteristics of the Korean Peninsula (KP) provide suitable habitats for a variety of organisms.
ㅇKP has a variety of climatic environments due to it elongated shape, extending from north to south, located on the eastern side of the Eurasian continent in the mid-latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere.
ㅇKP consists of approximately 70% mountainous areas, and the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range, which is a high mountain range extending from Baekdu Mountain in the northeast to Jiri Mountain in the south, is especially suitable for inhabiting numerous mammal species many mammals.

o The division of KP has posed limitations on ecological research.
ㅇThe division of KP has disrupted the movement and distribution of species, which limits comprehensive ecological research on KP.
ㅇDue to limitations preventing direct visits in field research, it is impossible to analyze the specific and accurate status of nature and ecology in North Korea.

o Increasing international and domestic demands for biodiversity promotion
ㅇThere is a need for a detailed investigation into the sustainability and status of organisms, such as the ‘Kunming-Montreal Global biodiversity framework’ and the Nagoya Protocol.
ㅇ It is known that about 100,000 species inhabit KP, but many animals and plants are at risk of extinction due to development, urbanization, industrialization, habitat destruction, excessive poaching, and climate change, which strongly requests habitat and species restorations for these threatened species.

o Reconstructing the dis
