South-North Koreas’ Cooperation for the Implementation of SDGs: A Focus on Cooperation Actors
Ⅰ. Background and Purpose of the Study
o Background of the study
ㅇRecently, the environment of the Korean Peninsula has been worsening, including climate change and biodiversity loss. Although inter-Korean cooperation must be promoted to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on the Korean Peninsula, it is hard to collect information to promote South-North Korean cooperation due to the strained inter-Korean relations and the worsening situation with North Korea.
ㅇEnvironmental cooperation for achieving SDGs and sustainable development is a global trend, and it is necessary to collect basic information and establish a foundation for cooperation to promote inter-Korean environmental cooperation.

o Purpose of the study
ㅇTo promote sustainable development on the Korean Peninsula and cooperation for SDG implementation, we aimed to collect basic data on North Korea’s environmental status and lay the foundation for inter-Korean cooperation in preparation for future changes in conditions.
- Explore cooperation promotion strategies, including collecting basic data for SDG implementation, compiling a list of inter-Korean environmental cooperation projects, and identifying the roles of cooperation entities.
