The Ministry of Environment Published "The Republic of Korea´s Adaptation Communication"

▷ The Ministry of Environment released Korean and English versions of "The Republic of Korea's Adaptation Communication" submitted to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in March 2023

Sejong, April 25 - The Ministry of Environment (Minister Han Wha-jin) announced that it published Korean and English versions of "The Republic of Korea's Adaptation Communication" submitted to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on April 19.

As the UNFCCC recommended that each member state submit an adaptation report according to the 2015 Paris Agreement,  "The Republic of Korea's Adaptation Communication" was published after the deliberation of the 2050 Presidential Committee on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth on March 16, 2023. Fifty countries, including the UK and Australia, submitted the report.

It is Korea's first report submitted to the international community regarding climate change adaptation. It will be used as basic data for the Global Stock Trade (GST), where the UNFCCC inspects global climate change responses. It will become an opportunity to introduce South Korea's policies on climate change adaptation and institutional foundations, including related laws and organizations, to the international community.

The report also includes climate change risks by sector, including the increase in extreme rain events, the decrease in coniferous habitats, and the Korean government's adaptation measures for climate change. Furthermore, it introduces in detail cases in which Korean citizens can tangibly perceive the results of the policies, including the citizen evaluation group's assessment of the implementation of the adaptation measures.

As member states agreed to build a Global Adaptation System at COP27 last year, South Korea's experience implementing climate change adaptation policies outlined in the report will help create such a system.

The complete Korean and English PDF versions of "The Republic of Korea's Adaptation Communication" will be available at Adaptation Communications Registry | UNFCCC.
