- On November 16, 2015 the KEI’s Research group on
Health Impact Assessment & Adaptation Technologies of Climate Change held
the 2nd International Symposium on Health Impact of Climate Change
at the Hoam Faculty House of Seoul National University.
- The symposium was organized to share the results of KEI’s Research group
on Health Impact Assessment & Adaptation Technologies of Climate Change
which has conducted research from 2012 as part of the five-year Next-generation
Eco-Innovation Project sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and KEITI (Korea
Environmental IndustryTechnology Institute), introduce domestic and global
research trend and seek further development. The 'Climate-Change Health
Adaptation & Mitigation Program (C-CHAMP)' that the Research Group is
developing to support the establishment of Climate Change Adaptation Policy in
the health sector both for central and local governments was also introduced
during the symposium.
- Followed by the keynote speech of Prof. Hae-Kwan Cheong of Sungkyunkwan
University titled Burden of Disease and Health Cost of Climate Change in Korea,
Dr. Elizabeth G. Hanna of Australian National University delivered her
presentation titled, Climate Change in Australia: Health Vulnerabilities and
Environmental Disease Burden. Afterwards, Policy Implication of Temporal
Patterns of Climate-Related Health Risk Estimates was presented by Prof.
Jong-Tae Lee of Korea University and Dr. Bin Jalaludin of NSW Health shared his
idea under the title, Forest fires and Health: the Australian Experience in the
1st session.
- Five presentations were delivered during the 2nd session including of
Development of Climate-Change Health Impact Assessment and Adaptation
Technologies by Dr. Yongseung Shin of the KEI, Development of Climate-Change
Health Impact Assessment and Adaptation Technologies of Allergic Diseases by
Prof. Yoonhyeong Park of Soon Chun Hyang University, Development of a Dynamic
Multimedia Model to Assess the Impacts of Climate Change on the Predicted
Environmental Concentrations of Hazardous Chemicals in South Korea by Prof.
Dongsoo Lee of Seoul National University, Development of Integrated
Climate-Change Health Impact Assessment and Adaptation Technologies by Prof
Hosung Shin of Wonkwang University and Geographical Distribution and Seasonal
Indices of Chigger Mites on Small Mammals Collected on the East Coast of the
Republic of Korea by Prof. Gab Man Park of Catholic Kwandong University,
followed by a panel discussion.
- On the following day on Nov.
17, an expert meeting was held to discuss the future technology development and
cooperation direction on health impacts of climate change.
