As global trade grows, so do the environmental implications of trade. Major countries around the world are raising trade barriers to protect their environment and industries, and as a result, trade disputes over green protectionism are intensifying.
Korea needs to take swift action to respond to green trade barriers from the trading partners while addressing domestic environmental issues. Trade disputes under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the Local Content Requirement (LCR), which are currently being promoted by the European Union (EU), will have a significant impact on Korea's industry.
In this study, the types of trade disputes according to the state's 'regulation' and 'support' were captured by focusing on CBAM and LCR, and the specific issues and their impact on Korea were analyzed. Based on this analysis, this report proposes a response strategy for Korea to both issues.
