On May 5, the Korea Environment Institute (KEI) held a joint workshop with the National University of Singapore Energy Studies Institute (ESI) in Singapore.
The workshop aimed to provide the two institutes with an opportunity to discuss various issues on climate and green growth.
The event consisted of three parts: opening remarks by KEI President Chang Hoon Lee and ESI Executive Director Poh Seng Lee, introductions of the two institutes and participants from each institute, and the knowledge exchange session, which included four presentations.
Five people from KEI participated: President Chang Hoon Lee, Dr. Dong Won Shin (Director, Division for Climate and Energy), Dr. Jeongeun Lee (Research Fellow, Division for Climate and Energy), Dr. Sungjin Kim (Head, Global Cooperation Team), Jun Hyun Park (Senior Researcher, Global Cooperation Team). Seven people from ESI were present, including Executive Director Poh Seng Lee.
In the knowledge exchange session, four presentations were made. Dr. Sheng Zhong, Senior Research Fellow from ESI, gave a presentation titled “Climate Change, Environment Policy and Global Value Chains.” Dr. Jeong Won Kim, Senior Research Fellow from ESI, made a presentation on climate ambitions in Southeast Asian countries.

Dr. Dong Won Shin presented on the status of carbon neutrality implementation in South Korea and its green growth strategy. Dr. Jeongeun Lee made a presentation titled “From Individual to Industry: Modeling Environmental and Economic Effects of Transition to Green Mobility.”

During the debate session following the presentations, areas for cooperation were discussed. KEI and ESI agreed to jointly promote collaborative research projects, international events, and human resources exchange starting with this workshop. As topics for joint research, they both agreed on carbon neutrality and energy security, as the two institutes have a particularly high capacity in low carbon energy research.
