The Korea Environment Institute (KEI) served as part of the South Korean government delegation at the Sixth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), held in Nairobi, Kenya, in February. UNEA is the world’s top decision-making body for environment-related issues, setting the global environmental agenda and providing policy guidance. The sixth session focused on effective, inclusive, and sustainable multilateral actions to mitigate climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

During UNEA-6, KEI took part in a side-event titled “Intergovernmental Consultations on Nature-based Solutions: Moving forward with the Recommendations.” Dr. Kyung Ah Koo, Chief Research Fellow from KEI’s Division for Natural Environment, presented an overview of the current state of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) initiatives within Korea and the Asia-Pacific region. Dr. Koo highlighted the challenges and limitations encountered, and shared several practices in Korea.

KEI also engaged in the "Thematic Roundtable on the Cost of Climate and Nature Positive Transitions: From Strategy to Action," part of the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum. During the session, Dr. Koo illustrated the Korean government’s efforts in combatting climate change, including an introduction to its institutional support for climate change mitigation.
