On August 2, the Korea Environment Institute (KEI) participated in the Third ASEAN-ROK Dialogue on Environment and Climate Change in Jakarta, Indonesia, hosted in Jakarta, Indonesia. The dialogue brought together representatives from South Korea and ASEAN member countries in a concerted effort to advance cooperative solutions for pressing environmental challenges.

The meeting was attended by delegates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Hyunsoo Yoon, the Director-General of the Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Scientific Affairs. Also present were representatives from the Ministry of Environment, the Korea Forest Service, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, and the National Institute of Environmental Research.

Participating ASEAN countries were represented by members of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Environment (ASOEN), including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

At the event, the KEI presented on its ongoing project, the “ASEAN-Korea Carbon Neutrality and Green Transition Cooperation.” This collaborative endeavor aims to bolster joint efforts between South Korea and ASEAN nations in addressing climate change and fostering sustainable practices. During the dialogue, discussions focused on securing funding for this initiative, which includes plans for establishing a comprehensive climate change database and reinforcing the ASEAN-Korea network dedicated to sustainable development.

The dialogue underscored the shared commitment of both South Korea and ASEAN countries to finding innovative solutions for a greener future. The participants reaffirmed their dedication to cooperative sustainability initiatives, emphasizing the importance of joint action in mitigating the far-reaching impacts of climate change.

The event not only highlighted ongoing efforts but also laid the groundwork for further exchange and progress in the realms of environmental protection and climate resilience for both regions.
