The Korea Environment Institute (KEI) held a proclamation ceremony for its new Korean corporate name on Tuesday, September 28.

Koo Yun-cheol, Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Jung Hae-gu, Chairperson of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences, Han Jeoung-ae, Minister of Environment, and many others including six former presidents of KEI delivered congratulatory messages.

In the event, Dr. Kang Hyeong Sik, Director of the Department of Planning and Strategy, briefly explained the history of changing the name.

The Institute has endeavored to change its name for nearly a decade to make it properly reflect roles and responsibilities it has been assuming.

The consensus was that the former name limited its identity to making policy suggestions and conducting policy evaluations only, which was rather a narrow definition of the institute.

Next, President Yoon Jeyong declared new roles of the institute, which now came to encompass a wider range of tasks with its new name, and outlined performance of the institute expected accordingly and outcomes it should endeavor to achieve in the future.

The declaration was recited by Kim Na Young, researcher of the Korea Adaptation Center for Climate Change (KACCC) and Kim Ki Hyun, administrative officer of the Human Resources Team. The cake cutting ceremony and a marker stone unveiling ceremony took place as well.

There are high expectations for what the institute will achieve under its new name.
