KEI Environment Forum

On April 1st, the KEI Environment Forum on the Unification of Water Management was held at the Koreana Hotel, Seoul. The event was broadcast live on the KEI YouTube channel, KEI Sustainable TV.

The event began with the opening remarks of Jeyong Yoon, President of KEI and the welcome speech by Heo Jae Young, Co-chair of the National Water Management Committee. Han Jeoung-ae, Minister of Environment of South Korea also attended to deliver a congratulatory message.

 

Two presentations took place at the event. Lee Joo Heon, Vice-president of the Korea Water Resources Association, gave a presentation on issues and suggestions on technical and institutional challenges in water resources management. Dr. Jong Ho Ahn, Chief Research Fellow of the Division for Integrated Water Management, KEI, presented current political issues and future direction of the unification of water management.

 

General discussions followed. Various experts participated in to share ideas, including the head of the Water Resources Policy Division, Ministry of Environment, the president of the Korea Federation of Water Science and Engineering Societies, and the executive director of the Daecheong Lake Protection Agency.

New Publication Forthcoming


The KEI Research Briefs, one of the official English publications of the institute, is undergoing a total reform. The new publication will hold several different articles in one issue, under one broad topic. It is expected that the revised publication will better promote the valuable work of the institute, providing much more resources and an insight enabling the readers to comprehensively understand the general picture of the current research works of the institute. The title, however, will be retained. The first issue of the new publication is expected to be released in June at the latest.

KACCC Holds a Contest on Climate Change Adaptation


The Korea Adaptation Center for Climate Change (KACCC), KEI, is holding a competition with the theme of "climate change adaptation in the field of heat wave and flood mitigation." Entries can either be in the policy development section or business project development section. Detailed topics include, but are not limited to ways to improve current adaptation policies in Korea and how to apply successful overseas policy measures to Korea's circumstances in the policy development section, and feasible project proposals that can minimize climate-related damage in daily lives in the business project section. Applications are open by the end of May, and the winners will be announced in July. Any undergraduate or graduate interested in climate change adaptation can participate in the policy development section; the business project section is open to any Korean citizen.

RECRUITMENT


The Korea Adaptation Center for Climate Change (KACCC) is recruiting members for the Citizens' Committee for the Evaluation of Climate Change Adaptation Policy. 50 people aged over 19 will be recruited in total, taking into account the profession, region, gender ratio, age, etc. Starting from June, activities will be centered on presenting general opinions on the Third National Climate Change Adaptation Plans and monitoring the progress of the eight tasks reflecting public demand. The working period will last for seven months.
