Ⅰ. Background and Aims of Research

ㅇ As the demand is increasing for social acceptability of environmental policies, and the public attention is growing to where the society and environment interact with each other,
- we need more systematic research on the society and environment for the purpose of realizing an inclusive green society

o Research goals
- To derive research projects and a roadmap on the society and environment for the purpose of realizing an inclusive green society

o Orientation of this research
ㅇ Purpose of the ‘inclusive green society’:
- Focuses on the environmental sustainability (‘green’) and the social justice (‘inclusive’) aspects of the sustainable society
ㅇ Attention to the ‘local’ dimension:
- Emphasis on the environmental issues that citizens encounter in their local communities

Ⅱ. Analysis of Local Environmental Issues
1. Issues from environmental NGOs
o Data collection and analysis
ㅇ Data: the environmental issues that the central and local environmental NGOs have officially raised in the recent 2 years as the ‘Top Ten Environmental News of the Year’ and otherwise on their websites
- Collected a total of 330 issues from 39 NGOs
- Analyzed by area(natural environment, living environment, social environment); by cause and effect; and by subject
ㅇ Main Results
- [Cause] A majority of the environmental issues arise in the area of the social environment (95.1%).
- [Effect] The effects of human activities mainly appeared in the areas of the living environment (57.9%) and the natural environment (31.5%).
