ISSN 2671-9274 Vol.7 No.5 / september 16 2019 Research Briefs KEI environmental strategies for site reuse of decommissioned nuclear power plants writing. kyung-hee shin, hi sun lee, ong jang cho, kyoung ho kim, kyung ang, jin kyung kwon a large number of nuclear power plants(npp) will be decommissioned and korea also decided decommission-ing of 'kori unit 1 nuclear power plant' in june 2016. until 2030, 11 more npps are expected to sut down and the decommissioning strategy is an urgent issue in korea. ◆ decommissioning of npps could give rise to various environmental concerns including raiological and non-radiological impact. in particular, non-radiological soil, sediment, ground water and other site materials should be investigated to complete the site closure. in this study, environmental issues related to npp decommissioning were investigated through the case studies of other decommissioning profects and regulations. ◆ to manage the environmental issues and to enable the safe and beneficial site reuse of decommissioned npps, environmental strate-gies were suggested especially for the sectors of soil and ground water. the strategies include 1)integrated establishment of a site reuse plan and decommissioning plan, 2) integration of the assessment process and decommissioning plan, 3) system construction of environmental remedia-tion criteria setting and monitoring, and 4) system construction of consensus. keyword ■ nuclear power plants ■ decommissioning ■ environmental management ■ soil ■ ground water 01 kei reaserch briefs
